Beware of the sharp scutes on the tail when handling bludger trevally. The eating qualities of these fish can be greatly improved if they are killed immediately by iki jime or a firm knock to the head before placing them in an ice slurry after bleeding.
Fish Description:
- These fish have a torpedo - shaped body with blue-green above and silver below, with scattered golden/brown spots on the sides.
- There are around 15 species within the genus Carangoides in Australian waters. Most have similar brain locations.
Fish Distribution:
- This species can be found throughout the tropical Indo-Pacific region from East Africa to India, throughout Asia and northern Australia east to New Caledonia and Tonga.
- They inhabit coral or rocky reefs.
Fish Size Common Length:
45-60 cm, maximum size around 90 cm and 15 kg.
