Fish Description:

  • The various species of piapara have various different colour patterns over a generally similar body shape.
  • This particular species of Leporinus has silvery scales and three spots along the flanks.

Fish Distribution:

  • Piaparas and related species of Leporinus are endemic to the Amazon and Orinoco River Basins as well as various other river systems throughout South America.
  • These fishes tend to frequent weedy areas in ponds or slow moving water.

Fish Size Common Length:

Common between 20-30 cm, maximum size around 40 cm and 1.5 kg.
