Dispatch Method:
The various species of mullet found in Australian estuaries and inshore waters have similar brain locations. All species can be killed humanely by iki jime, or a firm knock to the head. Smaller specimens (less than around 20-25 cm) may also be killed humanely in an ice slurry.
Fish Description:
- Diamond scale mullet are silvery-grey with dstinctive diamond shaped scales with black scale margins.
- Juveniles have black pectoral fins.
Fish Distribution:
- Diamond scale mullet occur throughout the tropical Indo-West and Central Pacific.
- In Australia this species can be found from the central coast of Western Australia, around the tropical north and south to northern New South Wales.
Fish Size Common Length:
30-45 cm. Maximum size around 60 cm.
