To maximise their eating qualities spotted grunter should be killed humanely by iki jime or a firm knock to the head before placing them in an ice slurry after bleeding. Other species of closely related grunters have similar brain locations.
Fish Description:
- Color is generally silver above, white below. Small specimens have numerous spots aligned horizontally or fused into horizontal lines.
- Large specimens plain silver or with scattered charcoal scale spots on back and upper sides.
Fish Distribution:
- This species occurs in tropical estuaries throughout the Indo-West Pacific, from the Red Sea to the Philippines, north to southern Japan, and south to northern Australia and New Caledonia.
Fish Size Common Length:
25-35 cm, maximum size around 70 cm.
