The eating qualities of these fish can be greatly improved if they are killed immediately by iki jime, or a firm knock to the head before placing them in an ice slurry after bleeding.


Fish Description:

  • Body silvery-red, with red stripes along the body separated by narrow silvery-white spaces, and a white lateral line.
  • Head reddish with a white vertical band on the gill cover.
  • eye red, fins red with white anterior margins.

Fish Distribution:

  • This species occurs on temperate rocky reefs along Australia's southern coastline between Jervis Bay (NSW) to Lancelin (WA) to depths of up to 260 meters.

Maximum size around 46 cm
